Testing phase
After spending months building a hydrogen-powered boat, it is finally time to test the boat. We are currently located at Jachthaven Drimmelen to test our boat in the water. The test phase is where we will show whether our design from all those months ago will work. These are long days of hard work where we encounter many problems. But each day, we overcome problems through our creative thinking, and we get closer to our goal: to become world champions in the Open Sea Class of Monaco.
At the beginning of July, we sailed on hydrogen for the first time. In the video you can see how our boat sails over the water. When we pushed the power to the max for the first time, we reached a speed of 31 km/h! Because of the planing hull of our boat, we smoothly glide over the water. The next step? Flying! When we fly we can reach even higher speeds and we can use our hydrogen more efficiently. This means we can sail further with the same amount of energy. We still need to test our boat a lot, but hopefully, we can soon show you our flying hydrogen boat!
To win the race in Monaco, the performance of each team member is of vital importance.
On the decision-making level, we have a Race Officer who keeps an overview of the competition and decides the best move during the race. Our strategy team analyses data from testing and racing to provide advice to the Race Officer. The final decisions are made together with our Safety Officer, who makes sure everything is executed safely, and with our Team Manager who is responsible for making the team function optimally.
On shore, we have our headquarters where most of the team is located. Here, all the communication with the pilot runs through the communicator. Next to the pilots and the boat crew, we also have a rib sailing closely next to it. Should something go wrong with the boat, there is always a team member around to help. During testing and racing, our Chief Boat is responsible for keeping the boat in optimal condition. When a subsystem fails, we can count on our maintenance team to repair it. The Chief Logistics takes care of all the logistical things before and during the race. And finally, to be able to share the up-to-date news with you, we have our operations team to capture the best moments of racing and testing.
As you can see, during this testing phase we of course test the performance of our boat but also of the performance team. Each small improvement in this phase gives us a better shot to become world champions!
