MOnaco energy boat challenge
Every year we show the potential of our sustainable boats in spectacular races. This year we will compete in the Open Sea Class of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge and prove the power of hydrogen! The spectacular challenge welcomes students and professionals from across the world to race in several classes with sustainable powered boats.
We will participate in the Open Sea Class with our flying hydrogen-powered boat! In order to win, we need to get the highest score over a total of three challenges: manoeuverability, speed and endurance.
To push our team and achieve as much as possible in just one year, we set our goal to win the overall Open Sea Class! This means we design our boat to excel in all three races; manoeuverability, speed and endurance. This way we want to inspire everybody to accelerate the transition to sustainable shipping.
Open Sea Class
2022 Monaco energy boat challenge
We won 2nd place in the world championship in Monaco!
The team pulled out an excellent performance in the final race: the endurance challenge. As a hydrogen boat competing with mostly electric boats, we won 1st place with a big margin of 7 laps difference! We covered 51 nautical miles (95 kilometres) by only using eight kilograms of hydrogen. This winning lifted us to 2nd place on the podium in Open Sea Class at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2022.
We took up the challenge of the Mediterranean ocean and proved that our hydrogen-powered boat can sail efficiently and stably on the open sea! We are extremely proud of winning 2nd place in the championship. But moreover, our success underlines that hydrogen could be the future of sustainable shipping.
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge was an amazing ending of our one-year journey to demonstrate the best possibility of hydrogen. The race ended our year, but our journey to decarbonise the maritime industry will continue. Join us to take action for a more sustainable future!
